IntelliGents is a company founded by scholars to
provide the academic community with the tools for
scholarly research in the information age.
We don't build software just to sell software.
We build the tools that we want for ourselves when we do
our own research and writing. When we talk about
them to other people in academia -- professors, graduate
students, undergraduates, librarians -- we find that
what we built for ourselves is something that just about
everybody who takes notes and writes papers or books
would want.
Our experience is that the software world doesn't
tend to design products for the needs of scholars and
students. It tends to be driven by what big
companies know how to market rather than what students
and scholars need. It is by happy chance that we
have developed our first product at just about the time
that it became possible for a small company started by
scholars to bring software to a higher education
audience at a reasonable price by marketing, selling and
distributing over the internet.
Our intention is to bring you products that will help
you to do precisely the things you already know you need
to do in your research and writing, to do so at the sort
of price that students and teachers can really afford,
to add new features on a regular basis, and to allow you
to thoroughly try things out before you pay one
cent. We hope that, if you like our product,
you will tell your friends where to download our demos,
encourage your Information Technology administrators to
contact us about a site license for your entire campus,
send us suggestions about what features you would like
to see, and discourage the piracy of our intellectual
property.
We intend our products to be available on both Mac
and Windows platforms. We develop Mac-first,
however, because it is the platform of choice of our
programmers, and because of the historically supportive
relationship Apple Computer has had with higher
education.
At this stage, our resources are concentrated
principally upon development and testing of our
software, and upon the marketing of this software to
colleges and universities in the US, and to individual
students, teachers, and private researchers. We
hope, beginning with our public Beta program, to develop
an online community of users of our software that can
provide mutual information and support.
